Liberdade de Imprensa existe na Inglaterra?

Uma discussão sempre viva nas sociedades que alegam ou reivindicam liberdade de expressão é até que ponto ela existe ou não.
A Inglaterra, sem dúvida, é muitas vezes apontada como um país no qual esta liberdade seria bem ampla
Pois, justamente, um veículo que é referencia, a BBC, é alvo de críticas por ter divulgado de forma muito superficial a manifestação de milhares de pessoas, ocorrida no sábado dia 21 de junho, no centro de Londres, contra as medidas de austeridade do governo.
Até aí talvez não houvesse nada de novo pois a mídia, mesmo inglesa, acaba favorecendo algumas notícias em detrimento de outras de acordo com critérios que vão depender da sua orientação políticas e vínculos econômicos.
A BBC obviamente não estaria isenta destas influências.
Achei interessante, no entanto, que o programa NewsWatch mantém aberto aos espectadores um espaço para que façam suas críticas ao próprio programa.
E muitas foram feitas relativas à ausência ou superficialidade das notícias do protesto.

After reading about a 50,000 person march protesting government austerity measures here, I noticed that someone pointed out in the comments that the bbc hadn't mentioned anything about it. I thought this was pretty surprising, seeing as this was a massive protest, taking place in the middle of london, with speeches from Russell Brand and MP Caroline Lucas, among other people. This is important news, and for a major news organisation to not cover it seems strange.

cWhen I checked this morning (11:30 22/06/14), this was the bbc news home page - no mention of any protests. Same for their politics page, and their England news page. Finally, when I went to local area news for London, there was a tiny link that only had a few lines talking about it, and a short clip with no commentary (screenshotand link).

The only conclusion I can draw is that the bbc are deliberately avoiding this story, and have played it off as totally insignificant. Unless you were looking for it, it is very unlikely that a user of their website would ever know this happened, or that it was a major protest.

I've never really had a problem with the bbc before, but for them to avoid reporting this reeks of deception, and makes what I thought was an excellent and mostly impartial news service seem like the propaganda arm of the government.
